Kids Feeling Fly
Running has the power to shape young lives and strengthen communities. But for many kids, the journey to the starting line begins without the gear they need. To change that, Nike and DICK’S Sporting Goods launched Kids Feeling Fly—a two-day galactic trialing zone at the DICK’S House of Sport in Pittsburgh.
Nearly 400 kids tested their speed and agility across four custom zones—Lunar Long Jump, Vertical Jump Challenge, Race Your Shadow, and the Galaxy Obstacle Course—while trialing Nike’s latest footwear. Inspiration came from 4x Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards-Ross and sports influencer Hannah O’Flynn, who shared race-day prep and the importance of having fun.
At the heart of the experience was Race Your Shadow, a tech-driven challenge where kids raced against their own particle-based avatar across an LED track. This “phygital” fusion of play and innovation not only energized participants but also hinted at the future of product trialing—immersive, interactive, and unforgettable.
Nike also partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Duquesne and Sto-Rox, providing transportation to ensure kids who don’t often get these opportunities could join the experience.
